May is Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month!
While teen pregnancy rates have been on a national decline, studies show that one out of four teen parents have a second child before the age of 20. Each year, Broward School Social Workers, in collaboration with community partners, host Walk-Aware – A Teen Movement designed to prevent teen pregnancy and promote abstinence and healthy lifestyles.
Walk-Aware, held at a local park on the first Friday in May, has been an annual event since 2008. Each year over 500 students from middle and high schools walk through an open-‐air resource fair and participate in small group dialogue, presentations, lectures and workshops that aim to promote positive youth outcomes.
